Ocoee River
Class III and IV
Ocoee River Rafting - the only experience you'll need is ours!

A Roller Coaster On Water
The Ocoee River has been called “the crown jewel of rafting in Tennessee” and has become more famous and respected in the mountains of Tennessee than Davy Crockett. It has been described by so many rafters as a roller coaster on water that its’ nickname has become the “Ocoee coaster”. In the past decade the Ocoee River in southeastern Tennessee has been rated among the top recreational rivers in America. Got your attention now? The rush of adrenaline you’ll experience after plunging through a frothing rapid on the Ocoee River is positively intoxicating which is why many people return again and again to experience this unique thrill.
No Rain? No Problem
Being a “dam controlled” river means that you will get a consistent, predictable flow of water and not be disappointed by a lack of rainfall. It also provides us with the longest rafting season of any river in the country. The Ocoee River runs only on weekends during the spring and fall and Thursday through Monday during the summer months.
Guided Only
Every raft will have a certified guide in it so you can relax knowing you’re in the care of a professional. Our guides are trained to make sure you get the most out of your ride down the river. During our 33 years of operation, Rolling Thunder has earned its’ reputation one raft at a time as a safety conscious provider of high quality river adventures. Read the testimonials from our customers to see why we have thousands of rafters each season returning to Rolling Thunder.
The On/Off Switch
Most days this river is used by the Tennessee Valley Authority to generate electricity for the area but on a guaranteed number of days it becomes a rambunctious whitewater paradise. If you drive past the river before the magical water spigot is turned on by TVA, you’ll be puzzled by the sight of a dry riverbed and large boulders. Take the same drive after the water has been released and you’ll be mesmerized by the incredible sight of churning whitewater. Set in the beautiful Cherokee National Forest, the Ocoee Gorge is dominated by three dams, two powerhouses and a now famous 100 year old wooden water flume.
