Ocoee River - The Pride of Tennessee Whitewater

Ocoee River RaftingFor many years, the tempestuous rapids of the Ocoee River were one of the best kept secrets in the Southeast. Then the whole world watched the ancient Ocoee River in action when it was chosen as the venue for the whitewater events of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. As a result, Tennessee rafting on the Ocoee River suddenly became a very popular destination.

With two separate “hang onto your helmet” sections of surging whitewater, the Ocoee River produces the most continuous stretch of class III and IV rapids of any river in the country. The legendary Ocoee River will give you a rowdy, romping, rollicking ride. Click the "VIDEOS" button above to watch our Ocoee River video action for yourself. Ocoee rafting is the perfect way to get your adrenaline rushing.

The dam-controlled Ocoee River has two separate sections for rafters to tackle - the Upper and the Middle. You will also hear some people refer to the Middle section as the Lower or the traditional. You have the option of just running one section or on selected days running both sections. Our Ocoee River Trip Schedule will show you which days each section is available. We use top of the line self bailing six person rafts on this river in order to give you the best possible ride on the water. Ocoee River rafting is a great way to rejuvenate your spirit! Just try it. The Ocoee is the pride of Tennessee whitewater.

White water rafting on the Ocoee River is an exciting, fun way to spend part of your vacation time in the Blue Ridge mountains. Our Ocoee rafting center is just 15 minutes from Blue Ridge, GA where you will find an abundance of restaurants and lodging.

    The Middle Section -
During this five mile trip down the traditional middle section of the Ocoee River, everyone in the raft works as a team and paddles upon commands from their guide. On an Ocoee rafting trip, our raft guides will steer you through such memorable rapids as Slingshot, Broken Nose and Tablesaw. Adventurous first timers as well as the more experienced rafters will all enjoy this exhilarating whitewater rafting ride through the rocky, scenic gorge of the Ocoee River. Before being transported to the river, all rafters will attend a pre-trip safety orientation. A short, bus ride to the river will give you a little time to enjoy the mountain scenery along the way. At the river you will help carry your raft a short distance to the launch site. With the dramatic backdrop of water roaring over dam #3 you will begin your adrenaline rushing Ocoee rafting trip.

Rolling Thunder River Company has maintained an exceptional safety record for over 30 years.

Note: TVA rarely releases water for rafting on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so we do not schedule trips on those days.

The Ocoee River runs through Tennessee and Georgia. The white water rafting sections are in Tennessee's Cherokee National Forest. The headwaters cross the state line into Georgia where the name changes to the Toccoa River. We offer relaxed float trips on the Toccoa.
