Since 1977, Rolling Thunder has safely rafted thousands of river miles, thrilled tens of thousands of guests and acquired years of professional experience in this exhilarating outdoor recreation industry. We strive to provide a fun, spirited work environment for our employees and in return we expect them to be totally focused on the overall comfort and safety of our guests. Employees must be at least 18 years of age and there's no such thing as being too old to be a Thunder employee as long as you are deemed capable of doing the job. Our goal is that every one of our guests returns from their river trip not just satisfied but excited and already planning their next trip with us. We will provide training to enable you to develop the necessary skills and teamwork needed to guide a safe and enjoyable commercial rafting trip. Senior guides will act as mentors and evaluators during your training period during which you will develop your "river sense". Training is unpaid but at no cost. Upon completion of your training, we expect you inspire confidence and provide encouragement when needed - on and off the river. The job of river guide can be physically and mentally demanding at times. It is a lifestyle that requires a great love for the outdoors and tremendous respect for the river. Rolling Thunder guides are paid a competitive wage and they also earn tips. Camp like housing is available for our employees. You may have a roommate and pets are not allowed. Some Basics Guides are be expected to provide their own river equipment: Type V PFD, 2 carabiners, proper footwear, whistle, knife, CPR shield. Guides must have CPR and First Aid certifications. Guides run trips on the river as scheduled. Help with the loading and unloading of boats from the top of buses. Pack equipment (medical kits) and unpack after trips. Clean and put away all river gear after trip i.e. PFD's, boots, wetsuits, etc. Assists guests with the fitting of PFD's, wetsuits, etc. Clean guide area, kitchens and restrooms. Conduct pre-trip safety orientations for guests. Guides are expected to be punctual, dependable and professional on and off the river. Guides must be willing to help anywhere, anytime with anything. Office and Reservation Assistants Rolling Thunder's office and reservation assistants are often the first contact for our guests. It is crucial that you be enthusiastic and knowledgeable in order to facilitate their trip plans. A good telephone voice is essential. Basic computer skills are necessary. You are expected to be punctual and dependable. You must be able to effectively handle a hectic pace in the office while giving cheerful, tireless service to our guests.
