Trip Details

Ocoee River rafting is available as half day or full day trips and is an exciting, fun way to spend part of your vacation time in the Blue Ridge mountains. Our Ocoee rafting center is just 15 minutes from Blue Ridge, GA where you will find an abundance of restaurants and lodging options.

Middle Section

As you approach the launch area to the middle section of the Ocoee River, you will see a dramatic rushing mountain of water coming over the dam and your heart will thump louder than the rushing rapids below. As soon as you launch into the river you will meet the first rapid on your trip, a class III aptly called Grumpy and soon you'll find out why the Ocoee is called a roller coaster on water. This five-mile section of surging whitewater has almost continuous rapids until you hit the half-mile section known as the Doldrums where you can jump out of the raft and swim a bit. Every raft will have a certified guide. You'll get up close and personal with such memorable rapids as Slice N' Dice and Broken Nose. Experienced rafters as well as adventurous first timers will enjoy this adventure through the Cherokee National Forest.

Upper Section

Tennessee white water rafting became famous once the Ocoee River was selected as the venue for the 1996 Olympic whitewater events. The upper section of the Ocoee River includes the actual one mile Olympic course and is only available for rafting on a limited number of days each season resulting in a high demand for those particular dates. The five mile Upper section of the Ocoee River will get you up close and personal with such rapids as Humongous, Godzilla and Mikey’s Ledge. This rollicking white water rafting section features the biggest drops on the river resulting in sligihtly more intense rapids in a few places than on the Middle section. The 5 mile Upper section of the Ocoee River focused the world's attention on the thrills of white water rafting in the Southeast.

TVA only releases water in the Upper section on certain Saturdays and Sundays. See our Ocoee River trip schedule calendar for a listing of those particular dates.

Full River – The Double Trouble and Double Trouble Express

Double Trouble

(aka Full River/Combo) Ocoee rafting at its ultimate! Our most popular Ocoee rafting trip on the Ocoee River doubles your adventure by rafting both the middle section and the upper section in the same day. In between runs you will enjoy a riverside lunch. The whole trip will take about six hours including your pre-trip safety orientation and a riverside lunch.

Our newest trip option, Double Trouble Express, lets you raft both sections in the same day with only a brief stop for a restroom break and a quick snack. Check our Ocoee rafting trip schedule to see what dates this trip will be offered. Double Trouble is only available on certain Saturdays and Sundays due to TVA water release schedules. Since this trip is only available for a limited number of days each season you should make your reservations as soon as possible. As Ocoee rafting river guides often say “this is the real deal!” This is the Ocoee River!
