Toccoa River Tubing & Kayaking
Toccoa River tubing & kayaking are perfect float trips for families with children too young for whitewater rafting. The Toccoa River in north Georgia is also ideal for those who just want to relax and enjoy the gentle flow of the water. Georgia tubing has become a very popular family activity in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are located in McCaysville GA- just 15 minutes from Blue Ridge GA.
Toccoa River Details
This beautiful stretch of river begins as the headwaters of Tennessee’s well-known Ocoee River, taking on the name Toccoa River once it crosses into Georgia. Floating the Toccoa has become a favorite family activity in the Blue Ridge Mountains, thanks to its scenic surroundings and generally gentle conditions.
The river is dam-controlled, with water releases managed by the TVA. These releases can occur daily and may significantly impact water levels and current speed. Before a release, the river is typically shallow and slow-moving. Afterward, the water can rise 2–3 feet and move much faster. This is a flowing river—not a lake—and conditions can change quickly. For safety, non-swimmers should avoid entering the river during high water.
We offer a 1.5-mile tube rentals on the Toccoa River. Under normal, no-release conditions, a 1-mile tube float may take up to an hour. When water has been released, the same trip can take as little as 20 minutes due to the increased current.
Water release schedules are controlled entirely by the TVA and can change without notice. Because release times are not reliably provided in advance, we’re unable to guarantee exact trip durations.
River depth varies along the route, and you may encounter small rapids and rocks. This trip is suitable for most swimmers during normal conditions, but all water activities carry inherent risks. All participants are required to sign a liability waiver before entering the river. There are no safety personnel on the water, so guests are responsible for their own safety. Life jackets must be worn and securely fastened at all times.
Kayakers and funyak (inflatable kayak) paddlers often complete the trip faster than those floating on inner tubes, depending on their pace and effort.
Please note that there is another tubing company located nearby in McCaysville. To ensure you arrive at the correct location, look for the Rolling Thunder River Company sign along with the bright Tooberoo signage. Our building is dark green with a red metal roof.
