Rafting in Georgia
White water rafting in north Georgia is only an hour and a half drive from the north side of Atlanta making it an ideal excursion even for day trips. The Ocoee River put white water rafting in Georgia on the map when it was chosen as the venue for the 1996 Olympic whitewater events. This thrill a minute river runs through Tennessee and north Georgia.
Many people have the idea that a rafting trip involves a long, tiring bus ride of several hours to a remote wilderness location. This is not the case with white water rafting in Georgia. It is easily accessible with a wide array of nearby places to stay and dine while visiting us.
Rolling Thunder River Company is located in the small town of McCaysville, Georgia which straddles the Georgia/Tennessee border-about 15 minutes from Blue Ridge-and is the only rafting company running the Ocoee River which is actually located in Georgia. Rolling Thunder is the closest rafting company to Atlanta.
We are located right on the headwaters of the Ocoee (called the Toccoa River when it crosses state lines). A short bus ride from our rafting center to the Cherokee National Forest will put a paddle in your hands and a thundering river under your raft.
