Group Lodging

Lodging at the Nantahala Rafting Center

The Bunkhouses

Our bunkhouses at the Nantahala provide an affordable lodging alternative for groups of various sizes who come to raft with us. Stay one night or stay for a full week. Nestled in the trees behind our rafting center, the bunkhouses offer a unique opportunity for our groups to “sleep cheap” with rates ranging from $10 to $12 per person per night.

Our dormitory style bunkhouses can sleep up to 60 people. They are divided into smaller sleeping rooms with built-in bunk beds. A full service kitchen and grills outside makes food preparation simple for groups of any size. A large bath house is adjacent to the bunkhouses. The bunkhouses are heated and cooled by Mother Nature so you should bring sleeping gear appropriate to anticipated weather conditions. You will share the kitchen area with other groups staying in the bunkhouse but you will not share your sleeping rooms with others. The bunkhouse is a surprisingly comfortable and affordable way for groups to enjoy a stay in the mountains. There are numerous other activities within minutes of our property so you can stay as busy as you like.

The Campsites

Our campsites at the Nantahala have pea gravel tent sites, picnic tables and campfire pits. They are conveniently located near the bathhouse which has hot showers. The camp sites are located around the perimeter of the campground so that your tent will remain shaded during the day. We do not allow alcoholic beverages in our campground or bunkhouses.

Rolling Thunder is a family oriented company. Guests staying on our property may not bring alcoholic beverages.

Location & Activities

While we are located in the Nantahala Gorge, we are only 15 minutes from downtown Bryson City where you will find grocery stores, restaurants and fast food establishments.

Try swimming in the nearby scenic Fontana Lake, hiking in Deep Creek and viewing magnificent waterfalls. These are memorable and fun activities that won’t cost you anything.

Volleyball, horseshoes and hiking trails keep our guests entertained between rafting trips. At night, groups congregate around a large campfire in front of the bunkhouse. Over the years, Rolling Thunder’s bunkhouses have been a popular choice for numerous church retreats, Scout outings and family reunions. Our guests know that they can expect clean, comfortable, well-kept grounds and facilities.
