Tennessee white water rafting became famous once the Upper Ocoee River was selected as the venue for the 1996 Olympic whitewater events. The upper section of the Ocoee River includes the actual one-mile Olympic course and is only available for rafting on a limited number of days each season resulting in a high demand for those particular dates.
The five-mile Upper section of the Ocoee River get visitors up close and personal with such rapids as Humongous, Godzilla and Mikey’s Ledge. This rollicking white water rafting section features the biggest drops on the river resulting in slightly more intense rapids in a few places than on the Middle section. The 5-mile Upper section of the Ocoee River focused the world’s attention on the thrills of white water rafting in the Southeast.
TVA only releases water in the Upper section on certain Saturdays and Sundays. See our Ocoee River trip schedule calendar for a listing of those particular dates.
