Ocoee River Whitewater Rafting
Ocoee River whitewater rafting is wildly popular for a good reason. Several really good reasons if we’re being completely honest! The Ocoee River has long been sought out by adrenaline junkies, serious challenge seekers, and fun-loving families alike.
What does an overview of an adventure on the Ocoee River look like?
Over 10 incredible miles of river brimming with class III and IV rapids await you as you plunge through the stunning Cherokee National Forest. Paddle through a breathtaking gorge, past majestic mountains and next to thriving vegetation. Professional guides help rafters successfully navigate the river and keep the mood light with in-depth knowledge and humor.
Which section of the Ocoee is right for me?
The Middle Ocoee River section is perfect for beginners or families who are looking to experience some great rapids but with a little less intensity than the Upper Olympic run offers. The Middle Ocoee River also runs for 5 miles and it includes a calm half-mile section where rafters can jump out of the raft and swim in peaceful waters for a bit.
If you are feeling like an Olympian, the Ocoee River has a section specifically for you. In 1996 the slalom events of the Olympics were held on the Upper Ocoee River. This part of the Ocoee features class III and IV rapids just off of the river banks and is a wild ride from start to finish. The entire Upper Ocoee River run is five miles long and you can raft it alone or combine it with a trip down the Middle Ocoee River section to make for a full day of rafting!
When is the best time to go?
The Ocoee River is regulated by a dam and the water is released on a specific schedule. In general, Ocoee River whitewater rafting trips are available May through September but only on scheduled days and for specific amounts of time. Check out our booking page to see a list of available dates and times. Early May can be cooler but less crowded. The summer months are long and warm and make for great trips but with a few more visitors on the river. September cools off again and also sees less traffic. Rafting happens rain or shine, so be sure to keep an eye on the weather as your trip approaches and dress accordingly!
